Waiting for a foxglove to bloom is comparable to the minutes before the Marc Jacobs show that closes New York Fashion Week. You're excited, you don't know what to expect, and you certainly can't wait any longer. But just like that, once the action starts it doesn't stop.
Truth be told I hadn't been introduced to Digitalis purpurea in my youth so you could imagine the intense feelings of floral FOMO upon my discovery. Where had they been all my life! Needless to say, I've been obsessed for some time and couldn't wait to add them to my barn border. The beauty of these unconventional babies is their part flower/part living sculpture/ part pure très cool quality. They are also deer resistant which is a perfect remedy for any unwanted guests. The variety I chose are called Dalmation Peach, a gentle peach blossom sprinkled with pink freckles. Finally my foxgloves are starting to bloom and all I can say is I love them!*
The best thing about foxgloves (technically- so hard to choose! so many great things but bear with me) is that they grow so tall- some up to five feet! A tall, peachy prospect with pink freckles that will keep Bambi at bay? That sounds pretty foxy to me. #itsplantporn
