VERTICAL GARDENS

I had the opportunity to visit this year's World Fair known as EXPO in Milan, Italy.  I didn't have much time to research the EXPO in advance so I wasn't sure what to expect. I wish I had captured the look on my face when I entered...

This year's EXPO theme  "Feeding the planet, Energy for life"  offered countries an opportunity to demonstrate their innovative agricultural technologies.  A trend I noticed throughout was the use of vertical gardens. A vertical garden is precisely what is sounds like: a garden that runs vertical, typically along a wall or building, its roots attached to a structure that is attached to the wall itself. One can plant almost any kind of garden desired since the plants receive water and nutrients from the vertical support.

Vertical gardens are a great way to incorporate green into your life and are an excellent solution for urban dwellers who lack space but love gardening.  They create a stunning design perspective as varying plants produce colorful texture juxtapositions, and you have fresh herbs at your fingertips! I would love to cover my entire building facade with one just like the  Fields of Tomorrow, exhibit, but in the meantime I'll settle on an easy indoor option from my local garden outpost. #itsplantporn
